Tokamak

TOKAMAK was set up by Ian Tregoning and Matt Silver from the experimental dj’s ‘Weird Beats Collective’. Their music policy fuses together house-tempo breaks, driving electro, leftfield electronic funk and full-on hardcore which usually gets people onto tables shouting like wild beasts.

The name ‘Tokamak’ comes from TOROIDALNAYA KAMERA MAKNITNAYA. It’s an experimental nuclear reactor developed in Russia in the 1950’s by the Nobel physicist Andre Sakharov. It works like a miniature Sun by fusing hydrogen atoms together to produce helium. It releases a short but colossal burst of energy. The Tokamak below was recorded releasing over 10 megawatts of energy per second.
This thundering power-house is the inspiration behind the music.

The first 12" "Setup/Mechanical Dub" was recorded at Plank Studio and released on Bushwacka’s Plank label in August 2000. The follow-up "Mekka/WBLS Throwdown" is well overdue and should appear soon on Plank.

"Mechanical Dub fits straight in my set" Andrew Weatherall (Various)

"You can nearly get a whole dj set out of this one! Nice dirty thick-sounding stuff.. fantastic" Paul Hartnoll/Orbital (Funkt/Various)
